Description:

Originally located in Hollywood, Cirrus Gallery & Cirrus Editions Ltd. was founded by Jean Robert Milant in 1970 as a gallery, publisher, and workshop exhibiting prints, painting, sculpture, performance, video, and new media. Working in the early years with John Baldessari, Chris Burden, Guy de Cointet, Ed Moses, Bruce Nauman, Ed Ruscha, Barbara T. Smith, and Vija Celmins (among others), Cirrus has maintained a longstanding commitment to California-based artists. In 1979, Cirrus moved to downtown Los Angeles and remained there for the past 35 years. With a number of galleries following suit, its presence in downtown helped shape the area’s strong identity as a cultural center for the arts, creating what is now known as the LA Arts District. It was also at its downtown location that Cirrus published editions and exhibited works by Lita Albuquerque, Mark Bradford, Matthew Brannon, Craig Kauffman, John Mason, Eve Sonneman, Mary Weatherford, and Jonas Wood. In February of 2015, further down town redevelopment saw the gallery move to its current location on South Santa Fe Avenue. Now nearing its fiftieth year as a fine art workshop, publisher, and exhibition space, Cirrus continues to focus on the future by presenting a diverse roster of LA artists on the local and international stage through publishing and exhibition.
