Sergio Mendes: The 60th Anniversary of Bossa Nova Saturday

“The sound of Brazilian musician Sergio Mendez has been a summer soundtrack for generations of listeners.” - NPR

A legend of Brazilian music and one of the prime architects of the bossa nova revolution of the 1960s, pianist, composer and triple Grammy Award- winner Sérgio Mendes returns to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the intoxicating mix of jazz and Brazilian pop he helped define. Mendés first made an impact in collaboration with Antônio Carlos Jobim and Cannonball Adderley, and came to international stardom with his iconic band Brasil ’66. “The man who put go-go boots on Brazilian music and brought it to the world” (Billboard), Mendes jettisoned thoughts of a classical career when the distinctive jazz-meets-samba fusion called bossa nova began to evolve in the clubs of Rio in the late 50s. So put on your dance shoes and celebrate 60 years of Bossa Nova with the godfather himself! You may even glimpse the girl from Ipanema!
