California’s design biennial, free admission to Pasadena’s museums, an open-air art market and gallery walk, a cultural dance festival, edible art, the Latino Heritage Parade, live music and children’s art activities will all be offered during Pasadena’s fourth Pasadena ArtWeekend.
The three-day, citywide arts festival kicks off with ArtNight Pasadena--now celebrating its 12th year--on Friday, Oct. 8 and continues through Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010.

For ArtNight, major museums and other cultural venues will open their doors for free and the city of Pasadena will provide free shuttle service among the venues, including Alliance de Francaise de Pasadena, Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Lineage Dance, Norton Simon Museum, One Colorado, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena Museum of History, Pasadena Symphony and POPS at the Ambassador Auditorium and Shumei Arts Council. Performances will take place in many of the venues.

On Saturday, Oct. 9 ARTWalk in the Pasadena Playhouse District will feature paintings, photography, sculpture and new media by artists who will sell their work in an open-air art market. Children can enjoy art instruction while adults visit with artists and take in dramatic readings, music, art demonstrations and a gallery walk.

Also on Saturday is ARTHeritage, a Latino parade to honor Latino culture and its elders that ends with a Jamaica fair at La Pintoresca Park. In addition, ART of Food – an outdoor food and wine festival located on South Lake Avenue features food tasting and demonstrations. Special guests include Melinda Lee (KNX 1070 and KFWB NEWS TALK 980) and The Bikini Chef. Guests can also enjoy a special themed broadcast of the Home Wizards called “The Art of the Home” and music provided by K-EARTH. ARTRhythm, a free outdoor evening concert will also take place at Paseo Colorado.

The Pasadena ARTWeekend ends with ARTPerformance, Old Pasadena’s Cultural Dance Festival, on Sunday, Oct 10th, where dances from around the world will be performed. This multicultural festival of movement will feature both professionals and amateurs, children and adults, and will take place at Levitt Pavilion and other locations around Old Pasadena. Following each performance, event attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a short lesson on dances from that culture.

ArtWeekend is a joint venture with the city of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division and Arts & Culture Commission, Pasadena Convention Center & Visitors Bureau, Playhouse District Association, Old Pasadena Management District, South Lake Business Association, Paseo Colorado and Pasadena CultureNet.
