Ardeshir Tabrizi
“Observations in Linear Time”
Recommendation by Jody Zellen

Ardeshir Tabrizi, “5:01 p.m.,” 2016, acrylic ink and unique canvas print, 27 x 51”

For "Observations in Linear Time" Los Angeles-based artist Ardeshir Tabrizi photographed a single palm tree over a six-month period in 2016. The image of this iconic palm on different days was later screened printed onto 27 x 51 inch canvases and then treated with transparent acrylic overlays. The colors in the sequence of eight works follow the sequence of Ellsworth Kelly's "Spectrum 5” — moving from orange to red to purple to blue to green — yet that acknowledgement is little more than an art historical anchor. The works are more about what Tabrizi finds unique in the Los Angeles landscape — the color of the light and sky and the omnipresent elegant, palm tree.
