An Te Liu
Anat Ebgi, Culver City, California

An Te Liu, “Nonorganic Life,” 2017, cast bronze, 5 x 6 x 12”

Continuing through July 15, 2017

An Te Liu is a Toronto-based artist who makes bronze and ceramic sculptures that are cast from assembled and cut styrofoam. The resulting works seem familiar yet not specifically recognizable. Some of the shapes relate to the body while others are pure abstractions. Elegantly installed across a long white plinth that spans the length of the gallery, Liu's sculptures feel like actors on a stage, each one having its own raison d'etre.

Some of the works are positioned directly on the platform while others are placed on contrasting bases and as such, call to mind Constantin Brancusi. This installation is a notably effective presentation of already intriguing works.
