Continuing through March 17, 2018
Co-curated by Sam Lee and Karen Rapp, “New Threads: Perspectives in Contemporary Fiber Art” is a compelling group exhibition featuring the work of 18 artists who use textiles in intriguing ways. In conjunction with the exhibition in the gallery, the Yarn Bombing Los Angeles collective has installed knitted and crocheted works in the courtyard covering benches and walls with inviting patterns and faces. Inside the gallery, it becomes evident the artists have different takes and perspectives on both the use of textiles and technology in their works and the range of approaches. We move from Diane Meyer’s sewn photographs to Robb Putnam's stuffed animal on one hand, to Chilly Philly's Instagram posts of his crocheted hats on the other. The roster of artists includes: Miyoshi Barosh, Chili Philly, Ben Cuevas, Lindsay Degen, Jasmine Delgado, Delicious Taste (Grant Levy-Doolittle and Bruce Yonemoto), James Gobel, Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia, Aubrey Longley-Cook, Mara Lonner, Diane Meyer, Jordan Nassar, Mark Newport, Robb Putnam, Erin M. Riley, Consuelo Jimenez Underwood and Margo Wolowiec
