Continuing through May 5, 2018
“Art in a New Place” includes a varied catalog of drawing, painting, photography and sculpture from artists that include Peter Alexander, Jean Edelstein, Ned Evans, Scott Grieger, Robert Nelson, Terry O'Shea, Caryl St. Ama, Edmund Teske, and a number of others. Curated by Juri Koll, the collection integrates the work of established and emerging artists.
A large-scale plywood sculpture by Ron Therrio, “Title Unknown,” is a dazzling swirl of smooth texture and sinuous shape both alien and intensely familiar. Sonja Schenk creates original and riveting interpretations of the natural landscape, her work here suspending a mountainous rock formation in a vibrant sky. Hung Viet Nguyen’s water, earth, and sky shimmer both in texture and subject, conveying a sense of harmony in his “Sacred Landscapes” paintings. In contrast, the hyper-realism of John Rosewell’s dark-toned and visceral pieces are also standouts. Lauren Mendelsohn-Bass’ “The Emperor’s New Clothes” vibrates with surreal tension. Lena Moross renders a simple sofa into a lovely impressionistic image. Linda Sue Price’s glowing, beaded orange neon work “Consistency is Not a Virtue” is an abstract dream.
