Continuing through May 6, 2018

Robert Polidori created a series of rich color photographs of the Getty Center and The J. Paul Getty Museum just before it opened to the public in 1997. It is interesting to see the disparate galleries with light streaming in, as in “Neoclassical Sculpture Gallery,” which depicts wrapped and unwrapped pedestals in a rhythmic contrast of light and shadow, cardboard boxes in the Furniture Gallery and the magnificent entry hall with an orange cone in its center. Polidori is a master colorist with an elegant sense of composition. His feel for compelling juxtapositions within the museum as the works were being installed lend aesthetic weight to what might have been a routine documentary exercise.
