Teresa Booth Brown
at Rule Gallery, Denver, Colorado
Recommendation by Gabe Scott

Teresa Booth Brown, “Obdurate,” 2011, oil and collage on wood panel, diptych, 24 x 96”

Continuing through July 30, 2011

Teresa Booth Brown's Thought-Forms is the Northern Colorado resident's first solo show here. It is an exercise in forming non-preconceived order out of chaos. Brown incorporates a variety of media in shaping these non-linear narratives, resulting in an abstraction that feels derivative of a meditative and archeological process. Though the first layer of each piece begins with collage, a variety of media play their own integral part in the development of the compositions. The spontaneously arranged collage elements provide a foundation for the interaction and experimentation of abstract figments, architectural diagrams, oil painting and drawing.

Brown's goal through these pieces is to find a harmonious relation between all of the elements by addition and subtraction of positive and negative space; gaining an emotional response from the process feels as important as that of the end result.
