Chau Huynh - Songs

Other’s Reality was inspired by Emily Levine, “You couldn't deny the other person's reality, you could only build on it,” when an artist watched this comedian’s Ted Talk show on Netflix last Jun 2105. Haunted by this insightful remark, Chau Huynh decided to create a theme that allowed her to open up her art practice and research to other people’s stories and beliefs. Starting with material, artist used random images and text from different sources that she has been collecting for years to gesso the canvas as a primary base before working on the project. After letting the canvas settle down under several layers of clear gesso, artist started to find the connection, meaning and story hidden based on the accident and random information on the canvas by slowly adding colors, line and shape form layer by layer. By letting things just happen without planning ahead, artist allowed the piece reveal its own stories that she call Other‘s Reality. Per artist, “I always expect the unexpected things happen to my project.” The most of the time, the tittle came at the end when the pieces were finished off as well as she felt that she got stories out of her piece. She shared, “I experienced some happiness, quite sadness and a lot of surprises working on this project when things slowly unveil in front of my eyes. The more layers I added the more stories were told. From each piece, sometimes I faced challenging like feeling stuck in the middle of the process, or not being able to make conversation with my piece. But I believe things will make sense at the end. I always trust the progress of being intuitive and constantly working until I feel I am pleased with the outcome.” The artist added, “Everything happens for some reason if I allow myself to open my heart to other people’s reality.” After the year of working on the project, Other‘s Reality had become the artist’s reality through her beautiful colorful and whimsical paintings. Ms Huynh opens up for audience’s own interpretation when viewing her show to continuously add more meanings to the art itself as way to appreciate other people’s way of life, belief and stories.
