Visual Planes
Exhibition Dates September 1 - 15, 2017
Artist Reception September 9 from 3 to 5pm
Hang Art is pleased to present Visual Planes an exhibition featuring all new works by Pablo Manga and Jon Shannon Rogers. Exploring the depths of color interaction and the energetic variations created from linear compositions, both artists are able to capture the infiniteness of space through their material.
For over a decade, Pablo Manga has used clear and colored semi-transparent adhesive tape as a painting medium, resulting in undulating fields of color and meditative visual spaces teeming with energy. In these spaces are reward sustained viewing with the emergence of shifting patterns and optical flicker based on the viewer’s awareness and perception in these processes. The viewer activates the work and the work activates the viewer.
In Visual Planes, Manga continues his exploration of an aerated and activated field by deconstructing his layering process into separate planes using his ongoing process of cross-hatched and destabilized grids. Inspired by the work of Gilles Deleuze in specific to his concepts of the imperceptible, the plateau and the rhizome, Manga’s work has no beginning or end, remaining suspended in a contemplative middle ground. Jon Shannon Rogers’ paintings and sculptures capture his viewers’ attention with the insinuation of shape and structure through the confluence of colorful lines. As viewers navigate his cleverly structured webs of vibrant color and rich texture, Rogers invites his audience to lose themselves within the visual maze and to consider each painting as a unique visual phenomenon.
